IRVINE, Calif. - Senior Josh Farmer will represent UC Irvine at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, June 5-8, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Farmer will kick off his third career NCAA appearance in the decathlon Wednesday, starting with the 100m at 12:30 p.m. The long jump, shot put, high jump and 400m will also be contested on the first day of the NCAA Championships. The decathlon continues on Thursday, beginning with the 110m hurdles at 11:30 a.m. That will be followed by the discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500m.

Farmer is a two-time All-American in the decathlon, finishing 14th at the NCAA Championships in 2022 and 16th in 2021. He redshirted the 2023 season.

"I'm feeling great and I would say this is the best I've ever felt going into an NCAA Championship," Farmer said. "My coaches and I are really excited with where I'm at; now it all comes down to the mental side of it and just staying focused and executing what I have to do."

"Josh has truly been a joy to coach and watch grow," UCI head coach Jeff Perkins added. "I am beyond excited to see the culmination of his hard work and determination come to life one last time at Hayward Field."

In May, Farmer competed in his first Big West decathlon and brought home the program's first title in that event since 1993. He also joined his father, Matt, who is a UC Irvine track & field alum, as one of eight Anteaters to win the conference title in the decathlon.

In April, Farmer established a personal-record and NCAA qualifying score of 7,703 points at the Bryan Clay Invitational. His mark ranks first in The Big West, second in school history, 11th in the region and 14th in the nation. Over the two days, Farmer set lifetime bests in the long jump (7.34m/24-1) and high jump (1.96m/6-5), while registering season bests in the 100m (10.75), 400m (48.52) and 1500m (4:37.31). He was named the Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week (April 16) for his performance.

Farmer started his collegiate career at the University of Colorado where he had a podium finish (3rd) in the decathlon as a true freshman at the 2019 Pac-12 Championships. The San Diego native prepped at Rancho Bernardo High School where he was a two-time California state champion and set the San Diego Section all-time record with a high school best of 6,963 points.
