Farmer in 10th After Day 1 of NCAA Decathlon

EUGENE, Ore. - Senior Josh Farmer sits in 10th place after the first day of the decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Wednesday at Hayward Field.
Farmer, who is making his third NCAA appearance, compiled 3,980 points through five events.
The San Diego native opened the competition with a 100m time of 10.97 seconds.
Farmer then got out to a strong start in the long jump with a first attempt of 7.07 meters (23-2.5). He saw an improvement on his second jump that measured 7.18m (23-6.75). That stood as his top mark of the day and was the eighth-best of the meet.
Farmer also finished 10th in the shot put with a toss of 13.87m (45-6.25), before clearing 1.86m (6-1.25) in the high jump. He closed out the afternoon by running a 49.10 in the 400m.
The decathlon continues on Thursday, starting with the 110m hurdles at 11:30 a.m. The discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500m will follow.
