Farmer Headed to U.S. Olympic Trials

June 14, 2024

IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine men's track & field student-athlete Josh Farmer will compete in the decathlon at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, June 21-22.

Farmer will head to Hayward Field for the second time in three weeks as he is coming off a career-best 12th-place finish at the NCAA Championships, June 5-6. The three-time All-American set personal bests in the pole vault (4.71m/15-5.5) and javelin (56.78m/186-3), while placing among the top-10 in five events last week.

Earlier in the season, Farmer established a personal-record 7,703 points at the Bryan Clay Invitational, April 11-12. That score qualified him for his third NCAA Championship meet and surpassed the minimum standard for the U.S. Olympic Trials, earning him a spot in next week's field of 18.

Farmer also won the decathlon at the 2024 Big West Championships in May, bringing home the Anteaters' first conference title in that event since 1993. He joined his father, Matt, who is a UCI track & field alum, as one of eight 'Eaters to be crowned the Big West decathlon champion.

Farmer will be graduating this weekend with his master's degree in demographic & social analysis.
