Josh Farmer Earns Second-Team All-America Honors

IRVINE, Calif. - Senior Josh Farmer has earned All-America honors the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association officially announced this week.
 
Farmer was named a second-team All-American by way of his career-best 12th-place finish in the decathlon at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. It was his third career All-America award as he also received second-team All-America distinction in 2021 (16th) and 2022 (14th).
 
Over the two days at Hayward Field last week, Farmer compiled 7,647 points, which was his highest score in his three NCAA appearances. He had a strong finish to the grueling 10-event competition as he set personal records in two of the final three events. In the pole vault, Farmer did not miss at his first five heights. He cleared the bar on his first attempt at 4.31m, 4.41m, 4.51m, 4.61m and a lifetime-best 4.71m (15-5.5). He placed seventh out of the 23 remaining athletes.
 
Farmer kept the momentum in the javelin where he hit a personal-best 56.78m (186-3) on his final attempt. That was the third-best throw of the competition. The San Diego native was also eighth in the long jump (7.18m/23-6.75), eighth in the 1500m (4:38.30) and 10th in the shot put (13.87m/45-6.25).
 
Farmer is the Anteaters' first decathlete to earn NCAA Division I All-America honors three times in his career. He was also the program's first Big West decathlon champion since 1993 and ranks second in school history with a personal-record 7,703 points.
 
The USTFCCCA awarded first-team All-America status to those student-athletes finishing among the top-eight of their events at the 2024 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Second-team All-America honors went to those who finished between ninth and 16th place, and honorable mention went to those who finished 17th through 24th in their respective events.
