UCI Heads to San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic

IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine men's tennis will send four student-athletes to the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center, Oct. 4-6.
Sohrob Amiryavari, Max Fardanesh, Ruining Huang and Rithvik Krishna are set to make their 2024-25 season debuts in San Diego. It will also be the Anteater debut for Amiryavari, Fardanesh and Huang. Krishna is the lone returner from UCI's 2024 Big West Championship squad competing this weekend. Last year, Krishna was 18-9 overall and 10-5 in dual match singles.
Other schools competing in the three-day tournament are Cal, Oregon, Grand Canyon, Navy and the University of San Diego. Singles matches will be best of three sets, while doubles will be one set to six.
LAST TIME OUT
Seniors Noah Zamora and Hiroki Sakagawa opened the fall season at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sept. 21-29. Zamora went 2-2 with a ranked win over No. 64 Miguel Perez Pena of Georgia. Zamora and Sakagawa also defeated Miami's Martin Katz/Antonio Prat, who were ranked as high as 70th in the nation last year, in a consolation doubles match.
IN THE RANKINGS
Noah Zamora came in at No. 121 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I Men's Preseason Singles Rankings. Zamora was the only student-athlete in The Big West to be featured among the top-125 singles players in the nation. He is coming off a 2023-24 campaign in which he finished with a team-best 23-9 overall record (15-4 dual). He went unbeaten in his last 10 matches, including a 6-0 mark against conference opponents. Zamora and Hiroki Sakagawa were also 90th in the preseason doubles rankings.
