· UC Irvine's defense was the star of the week posting two shutouts in a 1-0 win over UNLV and 0-0 draw with No. 8 Creighton. It's the seventh time in program history UCI has began the season with a pair of shutouts, most recently in 2018. UCI has begun with three or more shutouts twice starting with three in 2007 and five consecutive in 2010
· Not only did the defense stop all scoring, they allowed just 12 total shots with only three turned on frame. Luke Pruter stopped all three giving him 95 in his career
· Noah Clarkson made quite an entrance coming on for his collegiate debut Thursday at halftime and just 21 minutes into his career scored a goal that ended up being the game-winner.
· Along with Clarkson, two other 'Eaters made their collegiate debuts. Second-year midfielder Justin Conyers has made brief appearances in each match and freshman defender Brady Treinen has earned two starts helping preserve the clean sheets
· The Anteaters hosted the No. 8 team in the nation, Creighton on Sunday drawing 0-0. It marked the 80th ranked opponent UCI has faced now with 23 wins and nine draws in those match and nine results against teams ranked eighth or better.
Thursday at the Mavericks
· Omaha welcomes UCI back for a third time which included the inaugural match of the program in 2011, a 4-0 Anteater win. Omaha got the win in the 2015 matchup before making their first trip to UCI in 2021 to a 0-0 draw. After an 8-6-2 campaign last year, UNO is off to an 0-2 start after projected to finish third in the Summit League.
· The Mavericks return 11 goals between Mathis Pilon St-Louis and Theo Klein while league players to watch are Gonzalo Cuevas (1 G, 3 A) and defender Kyle Reese. Newcomer Sokol Ymeraj however has snagged Omaha's two goals already this year.
Sunday vs. the Bulldogs
· Back in Anteater Stadium Sunday will be a challenge with hot Gonzaga coming to town fresh off two wins and seven goals against UC Riverside and Sac State and UCSD on deck Thursday. The series stands at 8-3-1 to UCI with the last meeting a 2-2 draw in 2019. Gonzaga is projected last in the WCC searching for their first winning season since 2013.
· The Bulldogs return just four of their 18 goals from 2022. Early on, Italian Stefano Campisi and junior Chris Swider have contributed four goals and three assist between them. Junior Stuart Heringer has earned his shot in net and won so far needing to stop four of 16 shots faced behind stout freshman Sam Dahlin and Farhan Moustafa
