Powell, Means Lift 'Eaters to Comeback Win, 2-1

OMAHA, Neb. --- UC Irvine men's soccer continued its winning start to the season downing Omaha, 2-1, Thursday night in the first road match of the year at Caniglia Field.
UC IRVINE 2, OMAHA 1
The Anteaters return home still unbeaten at 2-0-1 while the Mavericks fall to 0-3 to begin the year. UC Irvine begins a stretch of three straight home matches beginning Sunday, Sept. 3 with a 6:00 p.m. kickoff against another unbeaten squad, Gonzaga.
UC IRVINE 2, OMAHA 1
- UCI's shutout streak to begin the season ended at 193:40 as Omaha's Theo Klein connected from the top of the box to put the hosts on top, 1-0, in the 14th minute
- The 'Eaters had just one first-half shot, but their first shot of the second half found the back of the net as Brady Treinen's corner found Isaac Powell in the box who blasted it in to tie it, 1-1, in the 47th minute
- UCI took their first lead of the night in the 64th minute as Josh Kenworthy's long ball got a fortunate bounce to Jake Means who finished with a slick shot under the keeper and inside the far post for a 2-1 advantage
- Luke Pruter and the defense did their part bouncing back from the early goal allowing just eight shots and Pruter stopping three shots
- "Mr. Equalizer" Jake Means notched his first career game-winning goal after three career game-tying goals of the five in his career
- For Josh Kenworthy, his assist was the third of his career and first since his freshman campaign
- Powell and Treinen linked up on UCI's first goal as the first career point for each player
- Mauricio Gutierrez made his collegiate debut starting Thursday night. He's playing in his third year after two seasons with no action at UCLA
- The comeback victory was UCI's first when trailing at the half since September 18, 2014 spanning 47 matches
