Four Momentous Extra Sets Give UCI A 5-2 Victory

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Anteaters forced four extra sets in singles play to notch the 5-2 win over Hofstra.

Jenna Schlatter, Alyssia Fossorier, Asha Gidwani, and Larissa Teramura all played third matches in their respective singles matches.

At the No. 1 spot, Schlatter came back from behind to win the second set by a wide margin, 6-1. The senior put up a fight in the third set, but ultimately fell, 6-4.

Fossorier was nearly swept in the first point of the second set, forced a tiebreaker in the second so she could walk away with the 6-2 victory in the extra match.

In the No. 3 position, Gidwani won both the first and third sets easily, 6-1 and 6-2. Teramura was the final Anteater to play an extra set where she dropped 10-5 in the No. 5 spot.

All three of the doubles matches ended in a 6-2 win, two of them earned by the duos of Schlatter/Fossorier and Gidwani/Amanda Perez.

"We played well today, battling indoors for the first time this season," said assistant coach Benjamin Cook. "It took us a little bit to find our groove but once we found it, we were battling on every point and playing our game. Took a lot of three setters but feels good getting our first win on our trip!"

Go 'Eaters!" -Haily Huynh

"It was a tough and long day but I'm glad we pulled through. I was hyped going into my matches and my teammates helped me keep that energy. I was very happy with the way Amanda and I played doubles. We had so much fun along with keeping our game plan simple. Singles was tough, but I'm proud of the way I pulled through. Overall, I am amazed with the way my team fought and adjusted to this environment!" -Asha Gidwani

"I'm proud of my team. Given the rough situation we were able to persevere and create a team win. Everyone fought hard and had great energy.
