Β·Β The 'Eaters continued their dominance at home with a Friday night win vs. San Jose State, 3-0. Destinee Manzo had a brace before the half and Laila El Behery finished off the scoring while the defense produced its third shutout this year.
Β·Β Tuesday night the 'Eaters were back in Anteater Stadium entertaining the Nicholls Colonels. UCI got their second win of 2022 back a count of 5-1 from five different goal scorers. Tati Fung produced the game-winner, her first as an Anteater, along with two assists. Making their collegiate debuts in the match were Halli Stewart, Emilie Castagna, Niko Hadzibabic, Mirayah Villalpando, and Alyssa Wheeler.
Β·Β Manzo had a stellar week putting up seven points after entering with 14 in her career. Manzo scored in each match and posted her second career two-goal game Friday giving her seven in her career and three game-winners
Β·Β Tati Fung also had a great week reversing Manzo's statline with a goal and three assists. Her goal was a penalty on Tuesday adding to a two-assist night. She assisted on one of Manzo's goal Friday giving her six points on the year thus far.
Β·Β Alex Jaquez and Lilli Rask held the torch for defenders each putting up goals on the week. Jaquez now has one goal in each of her four seasons and added an assist on Friday. Rask scored her second career goal going top bins on Tuesday.
Β·Β Two Anteaters added their first career points last week starting Tuesday night with Ella Colombini assisting on Jaquez's goal for the fifth of the night. Jenika Davis followed suit Friday assisting with Jaquez on the third goal netted by El Behery.
Β·Β UCI has begun the year 3-0-1 at home running their streak to eight straight unbeaten in Anteater Stadium and 11-3-1 at home since the beginning of 2021.
Β·Β UCI's five Tuesday goals came from five different classes - first-year Tati Fung, second-year Lilli Rask, third-year Desiree Mendoza, fourth-year Destinee Manzo, and fifth-year Alex Jaquez.
Β·Β The week starts Thursday vs. San Diego in the 23rd matchup all-time. The Toreros dished out a 3-0 defeat to the 'Eaters last year and hold the all-time lead, 12-9-1. USD is 1-3-2 in the midst of a five-match road streak that began with road draws at SDSU and LBSU last week. Cameryn Maddox has two goals and two assists to lead the charge with four other players accounting for their six goals.
Β·Β UCI heads on the road to CSUN Sunday to take on the 1-5 Matadors. The one win was a 2-1 victory over Cal Baptist along with blowout losses to three ranked squads No. 17 Pepperdine (8-0), No. 6 UCLA (6-0), and No. 6 BYU (5-0). LMU ended its winless streak in CSUN's lone home game with a 1-0 victory.
