IRVINE, Calif.-- UC Irvine women's soccer brings in another newcomer from the Evergreen State in Mattie Gillaspy.
Gillaspy is a decorated defender who grew up in Lake Tapps, Washington, south of Seattle, and took home both the Heart of the Spartan Award and GRIT Award from Sumner High School. As team captain, she led her squad to four league titles and two district titles while earning First Team all-league and all-area recognition. As a club player, Gillaspy played club soccer for Washington Premier FC ECNL right alongside Anteater commit Elizabeth Hayes.
"'Mattie is a tough defender who can play anywhere across the back line. She is strong in the air and tough in the tackle. Mattie is smart with the ball and has an excellent range of passing." - head coach Scott Juniper
