Pickard Leads 'Eaters on First Day of Big West Championships

IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's track & field team had three student-athletes in action on the first day of the Big West Championships Thursday at Anteater Stadium.
Jack Pickard led the way with an impressive outing in the javelin where he claimed runner-up honors. Pickard came out strong, opening the competition with a toss of 212-03. He surpassed 200 feet four more times, but his first attempt held as his best of the afternoon.
Malcolm Overbaugh was second in his section of the 200m to automatically qualify for Saturday's final. He had the fifth-fastest overall qualifying time at 21.81 seconds.
Josh Farmer also competed in the pole vault, clearing 14-07.5.
The Big West Championships continue tomorrow with the field events starting at 10 a.m., and the track events getting underway at 4:30 p.m.
