Tsu Wins Shot Put Title on Day 2 of Big West Championships

IRVINE, Calif. - Kyle Tsu won the shot put to highlight the second day of the Big West Championships for the UC Irvine men's track & field team Friday at Anteater Stadium.
Tsu claimed the conference title with a personal-record 59-05.5, moving him up to No. 2 in school history. He led wire-to-wire, taking the lead on his first attempt at 56-08.5, before notching his top mark in the second round. Tsu joins Mason Miller (2015) and Mike Morales (1989, 1990) as UCI's Big West shot put champions.
Noah Holm (52-02) and Justin Willingham (51-08.25) also scored in the shot, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively. Willingham's mark was a lifetime best.
Seth Enochs picked up five points in the long jump with a fourth-place showing. He recorded his best mark of the afternoon on his opening jump (23-10.75). Josh Farmer also scored as he came in eighth (23-01.75).
On the track, Jarel Sayles was second in his 110m hurdle section to automatically qualify for Saturday's final. He clocked in at 14.73 while running into a slight headwind.
Malcolm Overbaugh and Eric Parker secured both of the time qualifiers for tomorrow's 400m final. Overbaugh established a personal-record 48.39, while Parker crossed the finish line in 49.35 seconds.
Miles Duncan will also be in action on Saturday as he advanced out of the 800m prelims with a time of 1:53.28.
The 'Eaters are currently fifth in the team standings with 27 points.
The Big West Championships conclude tomorrow with the field events starting at 11 a.m., and a full day of action on the track getting underway at noon.
