FIRST TOUCHES
UC Irvine women's soccer continues to prep for the 2019 season, and will play a pair of home exhibition matches this week starting Friday, August 16, against Cal Baptist at 7:00 p.m. followed by a heavyweight bout with No. 4 UCLA, Sunday, August 18, at 6:00 p.m.

STORYLINES
UCI has begun the season with an exhibition match in four of the last six seasons with a record of 2-0-4 over those matches

In the past, UCI has met with such prominent programs as Texas A&M, Long Beach State, and a USC squad that was coming off a national championship the year before

The 'Eaters squared off with Long Beach State at the OC Great Park in 2018 winning the contest, 1-0. The year before, UCI and USC drew at the Women of Troy's home field. The last exhibition matches at Anteater Stadium came in 2015 when UCI drew with Richmond and CSUN

UC Irvine returns 15 of 25 players that saw action in 2018. Six players that saw considerable minutes as starters are back for 2019

UCI will remain unbeaten all-time against Cal Baptist as it enters Friday's matchup 3-0-0
Against UCLA, will be the first in any competition since 1995 and fourth overall win. The Bruins last visited Anteater Stadium in 1998
UC Irvine will keep a string of six straight exhibition matches unbeaten winning twice (LBSU, Fresno State) and drawing four times

CAL BAPTIST LANCERS
CBU jumped right into their first season as a Division I program and went 12-5-1 including a win (Cal Poly) and loss (UC Davis) against Big West competition. They finished 4-4 in the WAC where they reside. CBU is led by Kristen St. Clair who, like UCI coach Juniper, is preparing for her 13th season as the program's head coach where she has produced a winning season in all previous 12. CBU's points leader, Desarae Felix, graduates after netting eight goals and four game-winners. The Lancers do return minutes leaders Brodi Blomdahl and Elisa Soderholm in addition to 17 of their 30 goals in 2018. Romy Salvador is the lone returning keeper with minutes to her name as she went 6-1-1 with an 0.94 GAA in nine matches

UCLA BRUINS
Fourth-ranked UCLA returns to Anteater Stadium for the first time since 1995. The 'Eaters and Bruins last met in the regular season in 2014 where UCLA defending home field winning 3-0. The 2018 Bruins finished 17-3-2, one game away from a trip to the College Cup. Over the summer, the Bruins represented the U.S. in the World University Games in Napoli, Italy finishing in ninth place. UCLA returns a considerable amount of their 2018 core that scored 61 goals including leading scorer Ashley Sanchez (10 G, 15 A) who is one of three players including Jessie Fleming and Lucy Parker. The meeting will no doubt feature friends and club teammates with a majority of the roster from Southern California including in and around Orange County.
