OREM, Utah --- An epic weekend in Orem, Utah at UCCU Ballpark ended in another massive output trouncing Utah Valley, 17-4, Sunday afternoon capping a record 49-run weekend for the Anteaters.
Early Lead
UC Irvine (12-4) got a run in in the first inning thanks to a two-out single from
Adrian Damla to make it 1-0. UCI added to that in the second inning with five runs.
Mike Peabody doubled home
Christian Koss, and was singled home by
Jake Palmer.
Brandon Lewis slugged a high three-run HR to left field to complete the scoring in the inning.
Middle Innings
The 'Eaters took a break from scoring in the third before opening up another five runs starting with a solo HR by
Mike Peabody, the first of his career.
Jake Palmer reached base in time for Lewis to pelt his second home run of the day out to straightaway center. Koss would bloop a two-run single down the right field line to finish the scoring and put UCI up 11-1 after four innings. The 'Eaters added bit by bit with RBI singles from
Mikey Filia and
Griffin Mazur in the fifth and RBIs in the sixth from Peabody, Palmer, and Mazur to open up a 16-2 advantage.
Running Wild
UC Irvine put up 15 or more runs for the third straight game totaling 49 runs during the three-game sweep. The 49 runs set a record for most runs in a weekend series and also during any three-game stretch of contests in program history. The previous record during a weekend series was 44 in 1974. The three-game span of 47 runs was set later that season.

Mike Peabody had a career day with four hits, all for extra bases, including his first career home run and triple to go with two doubles while driving in two and scoring four times.
Brandon Lewis had two hits that both left the building finishing with his second 5-RBI day of the year.
Jake Palmer reached four times, twice on hits, scoring three times and driving home two.
Christian Koss had three hits including his team-leading second triple and his second HR of the season driving home three and scoring three times.
Pitchers of Record
Trenton Denholm wavering during his start allowing just two runs on three hits, but walking three and hitting a pair of batters en route to his third win of the year. Four Anteater relievers made appearances with scoreless outings from
John Vergara,
Kaz Akamatsu, and a pair of innings out of
Ryan Johnston. Walker Ramsey, the starter for Utah Valley (3-16) mustered just 3.2 innings allowing nine runs on seven hits.
