No. 7 UCI Earns 15-10 Win Over No. 12 LMU

IRVINE, Calif. – Piper Smith had a career-high five goals as No. 7 UC Irvine defeated No. 12 Loyola Marymount, 15-10, Saturday afternoon.

UCI finished the day 2-0 and improves to 9-5 overall. LMU falls to 5-7 on the season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Smith's five goals tied a game-high
> Mary Brooks completed a hat trick scoring three goals
> Isabel Rack and Megan Falcon each had two goals while Toni Shackelford, Jessica Lynch and Tara Prentice each had one
> Morgan Jones had seven saves in goal
> LMU's Hana Vilanova had five goals while Sky Flores made seven stops in the cage
> UCI went 4-10 on power-plays and 2-2 on five-meter penalty shots

QUARTER ONE
> Smith and Rack got the 'Eaters on the board early in the frame before LMU scored with 6:26 to play
> Brooks scored on a breakaway before LMU tallied two-straight goals to knot the game, 3-3 (2:30)
> Lynch converted on a five-meter penalty shot to give UCI a 4-3 edge

QUARTER TWO
> Smith opened up the frame with a goal at 6:53 before Prentice scored on a five-meter penalty to put the 'Eaters up 6-3 (6:18)
> The teams exchanged back-and-forth goals as UCI held on to a 9-8 lead with under a minute to play
> Smith scored at the buzzer to give UCI a 10-8 lead at the half

QUARTER THREE
> Rack notched a goal just 50 seconds into the second half
> Smith and Falcon also scored in the half at 4:34 and 2:13, respectively
> LMU added two goals in the frame as the Anteaters maintained the lead, 12-9

QUARTER FOUR
> The UCI defense stepped up and held the Lions to a single goal
> Shackelford, Brooks and Smith each scored in the frame
> The Anteaters earned the five-goal, 15-10, victory
