POMONA, Calif. - The eighth-ranked UC Irvine women's water polo team earned its third shutout in program history with an 18-0 win over Chapman in its first game of the Claremont Convergence Friday afternoon at Pomona-Pitzer Haldeman Pool.
UCI improves to 11-5 on the year, while Chapman drops to 0-4.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> This was the first time the Anteaters blanked their opponent since a 12-0 victory over Loyola Marymount on April 21, 2017.
> The first shutout in program history was against Occidental College (14-0) on March 8, 2013.
> UC Irvine's 18 goals came on 31 shot attempts (.581).
> Twelve different 'Eaters found the back of the net in the win.
> Mary Brooks and Danielle Ayala tied for the team lead with three goals each.
> Toni Shackelford and Avalon Gook added two apiece.

> Lynton recorded her first of the season, while Rylee Williams had her second.
> The 'Eaters missed only nine of their 18 shots in the first half.

> Brooks opened the third frame with two goals in a 36-second span.
> Ayala also scored twice, converting at the 6:42 and 5:52 mark.
> Sarah Nichols and Jolene Viramontes got in on the action, while Gook added a pair of goals over the final three minutes.

> Marissa Echelberger's tally with 2:32 remaining was the final goal in the 18-0 win.
