Piper Smith’s Career-High Lifts No. 7 UCI Over No. 20 Indiana

IRVINE, Calif. – No. 7 UC Irvine dominated in its home-opener defeating No. 20 Indiana, 12-6, Sunday at Anteater Aquatics Complex.

UCI improves to 6-4 on the season while IU falls to 1-7 overall.

Freshman Piper Smith finished with a career-high four goals.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Smith's four goals were a game-high
> Mary Brooks completed a hat trick, scoring three goals. She also had two assists and a steal
> Tara Prentice notched two goals while Marissa Echelberger, Isabel Rack and Kayleigh Schultz each had one
> Morgan Jones played the first half in goal, tallying two saves, while Alyssa Schulte made three saves in the second half
> IU's Megan Abarta had three goals
> UCI went 3-5 on power-plays while the Hoosiers were 4-13
