No. 7 Anteaters Power Past Poets

IRVINE, Calif. – 10 different Anteaters scored as No. 7 UC Irvine earned a 22-6 victory over Whittier, Sunday at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
UCI won both of its games Sunday improving to 7-4 on the season. The Poets drop to 0-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Danielle Ayala led all scorers with four goals
> Piper Smith had three goals and four steals
> Toni Shackelford, Kayleigh Schultz, Jessica Lynch, Isabel Rack, Arianna Brockstahler, Marissa Echelberger and Megan Falcon each had two goals
> Joleen Viramontes added one goal
> Morgan Jones made five saves in the first half while Alyssa Schulte stopped one shot in the second 16 minutes
> UCI converted 2-4 five-meter penalty shots and 4-7 powerplay situations
> Whittier scored on 1-2 five-meter pentaly opportunities and 2-7 extra-man situations
> Teresa Marchetti had three goals for the Poets
FIRST QUARTER
> UCI jumped out to a 3-0 lead at 2:41 after goals from Smith, Ayala and Rack
> Whittier scored on a powerplay before the 'Eaters ended the frame with two more goals to take a 5-1 lead
SECOND QUARTER
> The Anteaters stretched their lead, 9-2, at the half
> Shackelford opened up the scoring before Rack fired in a five-meter penalty goal (6:06)
> Smith scored two-consecutive goals at 5:32 and 3:38, respectively
THIRD QUARTER
> Falcon scored two-straight before Shackelford added her second of the day at 5:05
> The Poets would score back-to-back goals before the 'Eaters fired in four-straight to end the frame, taking a 16-5 lead
FOURTH QUARTER
> UCI tallied six more in the final frame while holding Whittier to one goal to seal the convincing win
