UC Irvine Meet Notes
The UC Irvine men's track & field team has two athletes traveling to Sacramento for the NCAA West Preliminary Round, May 24-26. Juniors Asa Allen (110H) and Brandon Lucas (200m) are set to represent the Anteaters at the three-day meet, which will take place at Hornet Stadium. The top-12 finishers in each individual event and relay earn a trip to the NCAA Championships, June 6-9, in Eugene, Ore.
Allen extended UCI's streak to five-straight years with a 110m hurdle regional qualifier. Lucas, meanwhile, will be the program's first individual competing in the 200m since regional qualifying began in 2003. Allen and Lucas will run in the first round of their respective events on Friday. The top-three from each of the six heats plus the next six fastest times move on to Saturday's quarterfinal.
ALL-BIG WEST ACCOLADES
UC Irvine had seven individuals earn All-Big West distinction after placing among the top-three in their respective events at the conference championships. Asa Allen and Andres Woodruff were both multiple award winners. Allen came in third in the 110m hurdles and was part of the second-place 4x100 relay. Woodruff was also a member of the 4x100 and 4x400 (3rd), while he was joined by Brandon Lucas (4x100), Michael Hamill (4x100), Paul Resong (4x400), Kyle Sandoval (4x400) and Stefon Goudeau (4x400).
ASA ALLEN // 110m Hurdles // Junior // Oakland, Calif.
• Had two individual victories and placed no lower than seventh in eight 110m hurdle races this year.
• Finished third at the Big West Championships with a time of 14.39 seconds.
• Ran a season-best 14.28 to win the 110H at the UCR Spring Track Classic; Ranks eighth in school history.
• Also took first at the Mondo Team Challenge at Hornet Stadium (14.35).
• Two-time junior college state finalist and conference champion in the 110H at Merritt College.
• Claimed runner-up honors at the 2017 CCCAA State Championships with a personal-record 13.99.
BRANDON LUCAS // 200m // Junior // Poway, Calif.
• Advanced to the Big West finals in the 200m where he placed fifth overall (21.81).
• 200m champion and 100m runner-up at the Mondo Team Challenge, which was held at Hornet Stadium.
• Ran personal bests of 21.08 and 10.60, respectively; Both marks rank among UCI's all-time top-10.
• Previously attended Central Arizona College where he qualified for the NJCAA National Championships.
• Claimed the 200m, 4x100 and 4x400 titles at the NJCAA Region I Championships.
