After a two week break from action, the UC Irvine men's tennis team returns to the court to face nationally-ranked No. 8 Southern California in a dual-match Saturday, Feb, 11 at 10:00 a.m. in Los Angeles.

UCI opened the season with three matches, including a doubleheader at Anteater Tennis Stadium. Fighting some illness and injuries the 'Eaters finished the weekend 1-2.
UCI was swept at San Diego, 7-0, in its season-opener.
The 'Eaters played a doubleheader at Anteater Tennis Stadium, facing Grand Canyon and DII powerhouse UC San Diego. UCI came up short against GCU, 4-1, after winning the doubles point but falling in four-straight singles matches. The 'Eaters rebounded to sweep UCSD, 4-0. Takern Wantabe clinched the match defeating Neil Tengbumroong, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.
VERSUS THE TROJANS
USC comes to Irvine ranked No. 8 nationally and holds a strong advantage with a 44-3 all-time record against the 'Eaters. The Trojans are 3-1 on the season with wins against UC Davis (6-1), Indiana (6-1) and UC Santa Barbara (6-1). USC's lone loss of the season came at the hands of No. 10 Stanford (6-1).
The Trojans have two players ranked inside the ITA/Oracle singles rankings including Brandon Holt, No. 11, and Logan Smith, No. 119. UCI met USC once last season as the Trojans earned a 6-1 victory in Los Angeles.
FALL HIGHLIGHTS
UC Irvine played in three fall tournaments during the months of September and October. Heim, Lopez and Marquard qualified to play in the prestigious ITA All-American Championships to kick off the fall season. Heim reached the qualifying singles round before falling to No. 75 Logan Staggs of UCLA (6-1, 6-4).
The duo of Heim and Lopez also played together in the ITA Southwest Regional Championships where they came up short in the quarterfinal round.
LEAVE IT ALL ON THE COURT
After missing 17 matches over the last two seasons due to injury, senior Sebastian Heim is ready to make his last campaign as an Anteater one to remember. The Speyer, Germany native earned an ITA preseason ranking of No. 114 and will look to lead UCI at the top of the lineup.
SUMMER HOMEWORK
Junior Luis Lopez competed in the 2017 ITA Summer Circuit where he won three of six Southern California tournaments to advance to the ITA National Summer Championships.
GET TO KNOW THE 'EATERS
UC Irvine returns six players and welcomes three newcomers, including one freshman and two transfers. Sophomore Daniel Gealner comes to Irvine from UCLA, while junior Sasha Krasnov spent the past two years at Cerritos College. Antonie Barthe is the only true freshman in the mix, hailing from Rueil-Malmaison, France.
Five of the nine Anteaters on the roster are California natives, with the remaining four players are international products. Heim and Marquard are natives of Germany while Barthe comes from France and Krasnov is a product of Ukraine.
