'Eaters Draw with Lions, 1-1
September 08, 2017 | Women's Soccer
LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- UC Irvine erased a halftime deficit with a 60th-minute goal to remain unbeaten in their fifth straight match, 1-1, Friday night in Sullivan Field against LMU.
The Lions (3-1-2) struck first as Sarah Sanger blasted a shot home from the top of the box to take the 1-0 edge in the 11th minute.
The Anteaters (2-1-3) woke up following that development putting up eight shots to LMU's four in the half, but continued to trail, 1-0.
UCI would rectify that in the 60th minute as Noel Baham connected with fellow senior Kiana Palacios who would tie the match up, 1-1.
The 'Eaters continued to pepper the net outshooting the Lions 18-6 in regulation, but the match flowed into extra time.
UCI continued to hold majority of possession in the first overtime period, and LMU answered in the second period, but no one could find a winner as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Anteaters are now 2-0-3 in their last five matches, but lost their shutout streak at it ends after a 430 minutes, the fourth-longed in program history.
Palacios put in her team-leading fourth goal of the season while Baham added her 15th career assist. Maddie Newsom turned away six shots while Charlee Pruitt saved five.
The weekend continues in Anteater Stadium as UCI and Oregon battle Sunday, Sept. 10 at 1:00 p.m.
