'Eaters Shut Out at CSUN, 1-0

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- UC Irvine's attack was stifled on Thursday night dropping its final road match of the season, 1-0, at CSUN.
CSUNΒ (8-4-5, 4-1-1) held a slight advantage through the early going with a majority of the corner kicks and the match's first shot on frame. Its second shot on frame wouldn't miss. A long throw-in into the box from Destinney Duron found Sydney Gilbert who turned it on goal and in for the 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute.
The 'Eaters (9-5-4, 4-2-1) began to pick up the pace up to and through into the second half. Kiana palaciosΒ put up five shots on the night, and Sydney Carr had a pair on target, but nothing would fall for UCI. The Anteaters pressured down the waning minutes finished by Andrea Mensen's shot sliding just by the post int he 88th minute dashing UCI's hopes and ending the match in a 1-0 defeat.
Maddie Newsom stopped three shots on the night while CSUN's Jovani McCaskill stopped four in the shutout getting a fifth from her backline.
UCI maintains a tie atop the Big West standings with CSUNΒ both at 13 points, but regular season title hopes took a hit. The 'Eaters will now watch until their next match Sunday, Oct. 29 as UCI finishes the season at home against Cal State Fullerton.
