BOISE, Id. --- UC Irvine put up a double dose of dramatics with a late equalizer and a header with 26 seconds left in double overtime by Kelsey Texeira to secure the 2-1 victory over San Jose State Friday afternoon in the Boise State Bronco Invitational.
The final minute countdown began, and the 'Eaters earned a corner kick. Reema Bzeih lofted one right in the middle of the box finding the head of Kelsey Texeira who put it away and snag the win in the 110th minute.
Texeira was instrumental in UCI's (3-0) equalizer with just over two minutes left in regulation. She and Lili Andino set up Noel Baham on the right wing who slung in a shot from 25 yards out to tie the match, 1-1, and send it to overtime.
Both squads put three shots on target with the 'Eaters making them count and putting two in. Maddie Newsom continues to stand tall posting her third win saving two shots.
Texeira, who came into the season with no goals to her name, now has two in three games this season, and both coming as game-winners.
Noel Baham's goal was also the first of her career, assisted by Andino and Texeira, the first assist of her career as well.
San Jose State (1-1-1) outshot the 'Eaters, 12-11, despite the 10-4 corner advantage for UCI. SJSU got the opening strike in the 23rd minute after Sabrina Miller, a sub just three minutes earlier, backheeled a bounding ball in the box.
UCI is off to a 3-0 start to the season now, and will look to keep that going Sunday, August 28, with another 1:00 p.m. match against tournament host Boise State.
