November 02, 2014 | Women's Soccer
DAVIS, Calif. --- UC Irvine finished its regular season in style with a lopsided, 3-0, victory at UC Davis Sunday afternoon.
UCI (7-9-3, 3-4-1) took charge early with the match's first four shots and five corner kicks before the Aggies' attack got going. Alex Karlowitsch was the aggressor for the Anteaters with four shots in the opening half, however, the score remained 0-0, and Anteater keeper, Jenn Randazzo, had to stop a pair of UC Davis (5-11-3, 2-4-2) shots.
The 'Eaters didn't waste much time to open the second half as Laura McGrail chipped home a shot off a Karlowitsch throw-in to take the 1-0 lead in the 49th minute.
Karlowitsch was at it again in the 65th minute finding Tatyana Garrett, who had just entered the match, to extend the lead to 2-0 from close-range.
UCI completed second half dominance with a third strike in the 88th minute as Jenny Konishi dropped a pass onto McGrail who headed home her second of the match to close it out, 3-0.
McGrail's brace put her at 10 goals on the season and 23 for her career while tying her for 10th all-time with 52 career points.
Karlowitsch led all players with five shots on the afternoon, and was rewarded with her first two-assist match. Konishi's assist was the first of her collegiate career.
Tatyana Garrett added her third goal of the season and also third in her last 45 minutes of action dating back to last Sunday.
Randazzo finished with three saves and only faced five shots from the Aggies on the evening. UCI held a sturdy advantage in every category including shots, 15-5, and corner kicks, 9-2.
UCI's regular season has come to a close missing out on the fourth and final Big West Tournament spot by three points. The NCAA Tournament field will be announced late next week to determine the 'Eaters' fate.
