Sweet Sweeps for Seniors

IRVINE, Calif. --- UCI sent its seniors off in style in the last home match for the Anteaters as it defeated UC Riverside, 7-0, at Anteater Tennis Stadium Thursday afternoon.
In doubles play, seniors Courtney Byron (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Notre Dame Prep HS) and Hannah Holladay (La Jolla / La Jolla HS) clinched the point for UCI with an 8-5 win. UCI (13-5, 5-1) would go on and sweep doubles.
UCI singles completed the sweep as all six players won in straight sets including senior Stephanie Hammel (Placentia / Valencia HS) winning in the No. 3 slot, 7-6 (4), 6-3, over high school teammate Natalia McKay. Byron and Holladay would also win their singles matches in what was the last home match for all three seniors.
For UCI, it is the eighth straight time it has swept UC Riverside dating back to 2005.
UCI's season continues, however, with a trip up north next week as it faces No. 64 Sacramento State, Thurs. Apr. 12th at 2:30 p.m. in the first of three matches next week.
