'Eaters Close out Action at Triton Invitational

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's track & field team closed out action at the Triton Invitational Saturday in La Jolla.
Brandon Burns led the Anteaters with a runner-up showing in the 100m where he clocked a personal-record 10.49. Burns' time ranks second in school history. Justin Johnson (10.58) and Logan Lyght (10.60w) also placed among the top-10.
That was Lyght's second race of the day as he started the afternoon with his third 110m hurdle victory of the season, winning the event in 14.05 seconds. AJ Taylor came in fourth (14.56).
Brendan Clark established a lifetime-best 47.53 to take second in the 400m. Matthew Irvine added a season-best 48.94.
Jacob Bustamante (3:51.23) and Juan Chantaca (3:51.65) both ran personal records in the 1500m. They came in fifth and sixth, respectively. In the 800m, Javin Schmitt (1:53.38) finished 11th out of 81 competitors.
In the elite section of the shot put, Chimobi Onye was 10th overall at 16.74 meters (54-11.25).
UC Irvine will be back in action next Friday, April 10, at the Challenge Cup in Fullerton.
