LAHAINA, Hawaii -- UC Irvine is in fifth place after the first round of The Big West Championship held at the Kaanapali Golf Resort.
UCI shot a first round of 295 on the Royal Kaanapali course and is in fifth place. UC Davis leads the championship with a 18-hole score of 285.
The Anteaters are led by
Katelyn Kong who is in fourth place with a two-under par score of 70. She recorded the lone eagle of the day on the Par 5 sixth hole as well as carded two birdies.
Graduate student
Jenny Chang led the team and is tied for fifth among all players with four birdies and is tied for 15
th place, shooting a 74 followed by sophomore
Alona Avery who is tied for 20
th place with a first round score of 75. Senior
Kiana Briggs is tied for 27
th with a score of 76 and sophomore
Katherine Gerbing is tied for 34
th at 77.
The championship continues with 18 holes Monday and 18 Tuesday.
