MILBRAE, Calif. – UC Irvine ended the first day of the Silicon Valley Showcase in fifth place led by sophomore
Katherine Gerbing.
Gerbing had the lowest round of the day at the Green Hills Country Club, firing an even par 71 on the first 18 holes followed by a 73 on the next. She is tied for ninth with a score of 144. Gerbing is fourth on Par 4 scoring with a 3.91 mark and was tied for fifth-best among tournament players in pars with 24.
Sophomore
Alona Avery is tied 15
th with a two-round score 145 (73-72), while
Jenny Chang (73-78) and
HaYoung Lee (76-75) are tied for 32
nd with a score of 151 and senior
Kiana Briggs is tied for 46
th with a total of 155 (72-83).
The Anteaters are in fifth place with a score of 587 (289-298), leading the tournament field with 109 pars to go with 24 birdies. Gerbing, Avery and Lee each had six birdies on the first day. Cal sits on top of the leaderboard with even par 568. Eastern Michigan's Baiyok Sukterm is the individual leader after a pair of 68s (134).
The tournament concludes tomorrow with 18 holes beginning at 8:30 a.m.
