LONG BEACH, Calif. –
Senior Liam Miksic broke his own school record and won his third-straight conference title in the javelin to highlight Saturday's action for the UC Irvine men's track & field team at the Big West Championships.

Miksic's second throw of 65.62 meters (215-3) vaulted him to the top of the leaderboard. Cal Poly's Colby Neron pulled ahead on his third attempt, but Miksic followed with a toss of 69.75m (228-10) to reclaim the lead heading into the final. His mark held through the next three rounds. With the victory already locked up, Miksic unleashed a personal-best 71.06m (233-1) to break his own school record. He is the third Anteater to surpass 70 meters and the first to do so since the javelin specifications changed in 1986.

Logan Peyton also scored in the javelin with a seventh-place showing (60.80m/199-5).

Jacob Hawkins claimed runner-up honors in the discus with a best of 55.75m (182-11).

Kenechukwu Okonkwo added a second-place finish in the triple jump. After fouling on his first two attempts, Okonkwo had a leap of 15.62m (51-3) to take the lead heading into the finals. That stood as his best mark of the day. CSUN's Jay Louison-Roe ended up edging Okonkwo by two inches with his fifth-round jump.

On the track, Angel Cordero clocked an 800m personal-record 1:48.10 to make his way onto the podium in his Big West Championship debut. Cordero took second overall, while his time ranks fourth in program history.

Justin Johnson scored in a tough 200m field as a true freshman. Johnson clocked a lifetime-best 20.87 which puts him fourth on UCI's all-time charts.

Roman Mendoza and Ashton Fegel both set personal bests to score in the 400m hurdles. Mendoza was fifth at 52.69, while Fegel came in eighth at 53.88.

AJ Taylor also took fifth in the 110m hurdles (14.44).

In the pole vault, Jake Reed finished in scoring position with a clearance of 4.75m/15-7 (7th).

The 'Eaters added points in the relays with Fegel, Bryce Bushnell, Matthew Irvine and Cordero placing sixth in the 4x400 (3:14.82), and Bushnell, Johnson, Jake Jensen and Taylor finishing seventh in the 4x100 (41.00).
