IRVINE, Calif. – The UC Irvine men's track & field team had a strong showing on the second day of the Vince O'Boyle Classic Saturday at Anteater Stadium.

Jacob Hawkins broke his own meet record to win the shot put with a toss of 17.54 meters (57-6.5). Hawkins led from the get-go as he opened at 17.12m (56-2). He then saw an improvement on each of his first two attempts in the final. Later in the day, Hawkins picked up his second individual victory, taking first in the discus with a season-best 56.24m (184-6).Â

Cole Dinkler cleared a season-best 4.50m (14-9) to finish second in the pole vault, while
Jerry Roberts took third in the triple jump (14.46m/47-5.25).

On the track,
Bryce Bushnell,
Justin Johnson,
Jerry Roberts and
Jake Jensen combined for a third-place showing in the 4x100 relay (41.45).

Roman Mendoza ran his first 400m hurdle race of the season and crossed the finish line in third at 54.04.

Zeid Hussain clocked in at 3:57.08 to take fourth out of 36 in the 1500m.
AJ Taylor was also fourth in the 110m hurdles (14.58).

Bushnell was fifth in a 200m field of 34 runners with a time of 21.73 seconds, and
Jake Jensen was right on his heels in sixth at 21.74.

Ashton Fegel closed out action on the track with a third-place showing in the 4x400 (3:15.32).

UC Irvine will be back in action next weekend at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla (April 4-5).
