Farmer Helps Team USA to Thorpe Cup Victory

IRVINE, Calif. - Recent UC Irvine men's track & field alum Josh Farmer helped the United States to a victory over Germany in the decathlon at the 2024 Thorpe Cup this past weekend in Wetzlar, Germany.
 
Farmer finished ninth overall to contribute to Team USA's winning total of 39,065 points. Team Germany finished with 37,472 points. The top five decathlon scores were added together to determine the overall team winner.
 
Farmer accumulated 7,282 points over the two-day, 10-event competition. He started with a time of 11.23 seconds in the 100m, before reaching 7.24 meters (23-9) in the long jump. That was the fifth-best distance of the day. The San Diego native added marks of 13.79m (45-3) in the shot put, 1.88m (6-2) in the high jump and 48.98 seconds in the 400m.
 
On Day 2, Farmer clocked in at 15.07 seconds in the 110m hurdles. He then posted marks of 37.49m (123-0) in the discus and 4.00m (13-1.5) in the pole vault. In the javelin, he wasn't far off his personal record with a toss of 54.46m (178-8), which was the fourth-best in the competition. Farmer closed out the meet with a time of 4:52.87 in the 1500m.
 
Farmer was a three-time All-American in the decathlon during his time with the Anteaters. In 2024, he was the Big West decathlon champion and went on to place 12th at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He also qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials.
