Farmer Wins Big West Decathlon Championship

SAN LUIS OBISO, Calif. - Senior Josh Farmer won the decathlon at the 2024 Big West Multi-Event Championship Saturday at Miller & Capriotti Athletic Complex.
 
Farmer maintained his Day 1 lead to claim the Anteaters' first conference title in the decathlon since 1993. He finished with 7,566 points. On Saturday, the San Diego native ran a season-best 14.97 in the 110m hurdles. He then went for 37.99 meters (124-7) in the discus, before tying for third in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.51m (14-9.5). In the javelin, Farmer had the third-best mark of the meet at 53.31m (174-11). He closed out the grueling two-day, 10-event competition with a runner-up showing in the 1500m (4:41.54).
 
Daniels also made his way onto the podium, coming in third with 7,240 points. He opened Day 2 with a personal-record 14.72 for a runner-up showing in the 110m hurdles. He then posted a mark of 38.15m (125-2) in the discus and cleared 4.21m (13-9.75) in the pole vault. Daniels followed with the fourth-best toss in the javelin at 51.78m (169-10). He wrapped up the meet with a lifetime-best 5:02.37 in the 1500m.
 
UC Irvine returns to San Luis Obispo, California, next weekend for the remainder of the 2024 Big West Championship events, May 10-11.
