No. 7/7 UC Irvine Earns 14-5 Triumph Over Brown

IRVINE, Calif. – No. 7/7 UC Irvine continued their winning ways with a 14-5 triumph over No. 21/23 Brown late Tuesday afternoon inside the Anteater Aquatics Complex.
Freshmen Lauren Hett and Sara Naulty paced the Anteater offense with their respective hat-tricks.

- Eight other Anteaters chipped in on the scoring effort, each scoring one goal
- Gabby Norris, Maja Layden, and Annabelle Mundelius all dished out a game best two assists
- Senior Faith Tedesco made the start in the cage where she blocked five shots in 16 minutes
- Freshman Rachel Kirchner relieved Tedesco in the second half to stop five attempts towards the cage
- Marilynn Hassett and Hett stole the ball two times each
- Brown went 1-9 on power play chances while UCI went 0-5
- UC Irvine remains unbeaten against the Bears, improving to 7-0 in the all-time series history
- No. 21/23 Brown was led by Hanna Tidrencczei who recorded three goals on six shots along with a drawn exclusion
SCORING BREAKDOWN
- First period: No. 7/7 UC Irvine went up 2-0 early off direct shots from Libby Alexander (5:42) and Gracie Helberg (5:04). No. 21/23 Brown got into the game with two goals on two straight offensive possessions (4:05, 3:28) to even the game 2-all. Gabby Norris added to the effort with her lofted ball into the far side upper corner at 3:05 before the Bears spun to avoid the defense at 2:30 to keep the game knotted up, 3-3.

- Second period: The Anteaters quickly attacked to break the deadlock at 6:10 when Kili Skibby hit from atop the formation and then Sara Naulty (4:48) was able to get the ball into the cage through the near post to go ahead, 5-3. Brown brought the game back within one, but Lauren Hett's shot that barred down into the cage at 1:01 gave UCI the 6-4 advantage.

- Third period: No. 7/7 UC Irvine's offense continued to roar as Hett hit the side bar to bounce the ball into the cage (7:32) and Naulty (4:44) swung far side. After drawing an exclusion, No. 21/23 Brown drew up a play during a timeout that allowed them to find the back of the cage with 3:29 on the clock. Jensine Bugelli (1:01) sprinted down the length of the pool for the score to keep UCI ahead, 9-5, entering the final period.

- Fourth period: UCI held the Bears scoreless into the final stanza while tacking on five more goals to the scoreboard. Both Hett and Naulty notched hat-tricks in the final eight minutes of the game to help the Anteaters to the 14-5 victory.
