SEASIDE, Calif. - A pair of freshmen led UC Irvine in the first round of the Leadership and Golf Collegiate Classic Monday at Bayonet Golf Course.

Jack Yu and
Tommy Lin both carded an even-par 72 to tie for 19th through 18 holes. Yu was steady throughout the round, finishing with one birdie and one bogey. Lin, who was making his collegiate debut, tied for the team lead with three birdies.

Rei Harashima fired two birdies and eagled the par-5, 527-yard 18th, but came in at 4-over to tie for 56th.

JJ Nakao (78) and sophomore
Jason Tang (79) rounded out UCI's 5-count-4 lineup in 70th and 75th, respectively.

As a team, UCI is 11th at 10-over. BYU (-7) holds a narrow one-stroke lead over Sam Houston State. The Bearkats' Bret Gray sits atop the individual leaderboard with a 6-under 66.

The second round of the Leadership and Golf Collegiate Championship will take place Tuesday with tee times starting at 8:20 a.m.
