Willingham Leads 'Eaters at Vince O'Boyle Classic

IRVINE, Calif. - Justin Willingham earned two of UC Irvine's three event wins Saturday at the Vince O'Boyle Track & Field Classic at Anteater Stadium.
Willingham started the meet with his second shot put victory of the season. He took the lead on his second attempt with a toss of 16.78 meters (55-00.75), and that stood as the best of the competition through the final four rounds. Willingham came back later in the day with an individual victory in the discus at 50.85m (166-10).
Quincy Stokes was also the runner-up in the shot put at 15.76m (51-08.5).
On the track, Drew Pickett took top honors in his second 110m hurdle race of the 2023 campaign. Pickett ran a season-best 14.45 to beat out teammate Jarel Sayles (14.52) by seven hundredths of a second. Decathlete Max Daniels added a personal-record 15.22 to come in fifth. Daniels also notched a PR 40.38m (132-05) in the discus.
Zeid Hussain led a trio of 'Eaters in the top-10 in the 1500m. He clocked a season-best 3:56.03 to place second overall. Joshua Schuld was fourth at 3:57.31, and Cameron Smith took ninth in a season-best 3:59.61.
Malcolm Overbaugh had a third-place showing in the 400m with a time of 49.19. Eric Parker (49.79), Ty Sheridan (49.92) and Jake Preston (49.96) were also among the top eight.
Brandon Burns had the Anteaters' fastest time in the 100m at 10.93 seconds.
Overbaugh, Parker, Preston and Sheridan wrapped up Saturday's action with a runner-up performance in the 4x400 relay. The quartet established a season-best 3:14.42.
UC Irvine is back in action next Friday, April 7, at the Challenge Cup in Santa Barbara.
