UC Irvine continues on their homestand with match two of seven welcoming in Illinois State of the Missouri Valley Conference

- UC Irvine's seven match homestand continues with the second match of it
- The 'Eaters have four wins coming against UC Riverside, Caltech, Cal State LA, and George Fox
- Two of UCI's first four matches were Big West contests including the season opener at UC Davis.
- Emily Fowler leads the squad with seven dual match singles wins including four consecutive wins
- Other winning records in singles are Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico at 5-3 at No. 1 with wins in three straight, Alyssia Fossorier at 6-3 with winning records at Nos. 2, 3, and 4 singles, and Dasee Carter has returned from injury and is 2-1 with wins in two straight
- Anteater doubles are 18-17 overall, the duo of Alyssia Fossorier and Jessica Tsukiji are 6-6 together
- Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico is 7-2 overall in doubles between four different doubles partners
- The Anteaters competed in three fall tournaments and the CSUF Spring Invite to start 2022 taking home a total of 27 singles wins and eight doubles wins
- The women's tennis squad finished the fall quarter with the highest grade point average in UCI athletics. "This team takes great pride in their studies and I'm so happy they are being recognized for all their efforts. This is quite an impressive accomplishment," praised coach Ferris.
- Five Anteaters were among the 113 student-athletes on the Fall 2021 Dean's List - Dasee Carter, Megan Mansonhing, Shreya Pavani, Mia Totah, and Jessica Tsukiji - by taking 12 or more units with a 3.500 GPA or higher
Last Time Out
- UCI was 1-1 last week winning at Cal State LA, 4-3, to extend their win streak to three matches before falling to Weber State, 5-2, the next day
- Sunday's loss to the Wildcats featured head coach Elizabeth Ferris coaching against her college coach, RuthAnn Allen
- UCI was unbeaten at Nos. 3 and 5 singles going 6-6 in singles play
- The 'Eaters failed to secure either doubles play going 1-for-3 in each match
Illinois State Redbirds
The Redbirds from the Missouri Valley Conference visit finishing up a four-match road trip covering nearly two weeks. ISU fell at Purdue and Marquette before winning at Grand Canyon on Tuesday. Altogether, Illinois State is 8-5 going 5-5 on the road. They will return for their first conference match of the year next week.
Sophomore Tijana Zlatanovic from Austria leads the Redbirds at No. 1 singles earning four wins this year. No. 2 singles player from Russia Alexandra Abyasova has six wins including three in the last four matches. Maria Potsi has won all three matches on the road trip at No. 3 singles all in three sets for the senior from Greece.
