· The Anteaters kept it rolling with its first Big West win at UC Riverside, 1-0. The one goal came on a 56th-minute penalty kick by Desiree Mendoza which snapped streaks of three straight draws for UCI and six straight for UCR. Mendoza earned her fifth career game-winning goal to lead all active Anteaters
· UC Irvine came back home to face Cal State Fullerton Sunday night in a grudge match from a 2-1 non-conference loss in August. The match finished a 0-0 draw with UCI remaining unbeaten in its five conference matches. Both sides had their chances with 12 of the 23 shots in the match on target. The sides remain in a tie for third place with seven points apiece along with Cal Poly joining them.
· The pair of shutouts this week get UCI's defense to a shutout streak of 216:40 stretching back to the UC Davis match. Glo Hinojosa has recorded six shutouts for the most among Big West keepers. This is coming off a program record shutout streak of 554:57 at the end of the 2021 season.
· The Anteaters have a trio of players that reached 50 career matches last week, something 92 Anteaters have reached all-time. Destinee Manzo played her 50th matchup at UC Davis scoring the equalizer in a 2-2 match. Gianna Creighton and Maddy Chavez each hit 50 matches Sunday along with posting a shutout vs. CSUB
· Mendoza converted her penalty kick Thursday night making her 2-for-2 on the year. Tati Fung also has a PK convert for a perfect 3-for-3 on the year. UC Irvine as a team is true from the spot in its last nine attempts last missing one in 2019.
· Anteater keeper Glo Hinojosa matched her career high in saves with seven Sunday vs. CSF along with her 7-save performances vs. USC and last year at UCLA. She is up to 119 career saves. Nationally, her 1,170 minutes rank seventh and she's 16th with her six shutouts.
· The Big West will catch up to the Anteaters who have a bye on Thursday. UCI has played five matches along with CSU Bakersfield and CSUN. UCI is currently tied for third on seven points with CSF and CP trailing CSUB (8 points) and LBSU (10 points). Chasing are Hawai'I, UC Davis, and UCSB all on five points with the top six teams in the standings earning a spot in the Big West Tournament.
· The rivals meet Sunday night with UC Irvine and Long Beach State in Anteater Stadium. The Beach are an even 4-4-4 helped by a 3-0-1 mark in Big West. This will be LBSU's third road game coming off a 2-0 win at Hawai'I and a long trip to No. 20 Harvard they lost. LBSU is also off Thursday, but are coming off Big West weekly awards to Lena Silano (9 G, 3 A) and keeper Zora Standifer (0.89 GAA, 19 Sv, 3-0-2).
