LAHAINA, Maui - The UC Irvine men's golf team dropped five spots into 12th place after the second round of the Ka'anapali Classic Saturday at Royal Ka'anapali Golf Couse.
The Anteaters have a two-round total of 3-under 565 (278-287). They are two strokes behind No. 20 Georgia, Boise State, Louisiana and Colorado, all of which are tied for eighth. No. 11 Oklahoma leads the 20-team field at 546 (-22).
Freshman
Rei Harashima continued to pace the 'Eaters, carding a second-round 70 (-1). Harashima, who has a team-best 10 birdies, now sits in a tie for 13th at 4-under 138 through 36 holes.
Redshirt freshman
Jin Nakao registered the first eagle of his collegiate career on the par-5, 474-yard fifth hole. Nakao closed out the round at 2-over 73, and is tied for 41st at 142 (E) heading into tomorrow's final round.
Junior
Darien Zhao saw a one-stroke improvement, finishing the second round at even-par 71. He moved up 10 spots in the standings and is currently tied for 49th at 1-over 143.
Freshman
Andy Zou is also tied for 49th with a 36-hole score of 143 (70-73), while junior
Kolbe Irei is tied for 66th (145).
North Florida's Nick Gabrelcik, who is ranked 31st in the nation, holds a two-stroke lead on the individual field at 12-under 130 (65-65).
UC Irvine is back in action on Sunday for the third round of the Ka'anapali Classic. The final 18 holes are set to get underway with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. (HT)/11 a.m. (PT).
