
Harashima Leads Anteaters on Second Day of Big West Championship

LA QUINTA, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's golf team carded a season-best 284 (-4) in the second round of the 2026 Big West Championship Monday at La Quinta Country Club.
The Anteaters are now fourth with a 36-hole total of 1-over 577 (293-284). They are three strokes back of Cal Poly and Hawai'i, who are tied for second. Top-seeded and 28th-ranked Long Beach State holds a commanding lead on the field at 30-under. LBSU's Steen Zeeman remained atop the individual standings with an 11-under 133 (67-66).
Rei Harashima fired a season-best 5-under 67 to pace the 'Eaters in Round 2. He nearly had an unblemished scorecard with four birdies and an eagle before his only bogey of the day on the 18th hole. Harashima eagled the par-5, 547-yard 13th. He climbed 16 spots in the standings into a tie for sixth with a 36-hole score of 141 (-3).
Jack Yu is tied for 20th at 1-over 145 (73-72), while Jason Tang (72-75) is two strokes back in a tie for 25th. Tommy Lin is also tied for 33rd with a 151 (74-77).
Owen Davis-Piger saw a 12-stroke improvement from the first round, coming in at 2-under 70. He started the day with two bogeys before settling in with four birdies and 12 pars the rest of the way. Davis-Piger moved up 10 spots into a tie for 38th (152).
UC Irvine will close out the Big West Championship with the final round on Tuesday, May 5. Tee times are scheduled to start at 8 a.m.
