
'Eaters Suffer Road Defeat at USD

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- UC Irvine women's soccer could not find the back of the net Thursday afternoon in Torero Stadium dropping their match against San Diego, 3-0.
SOUR START
Both sides were on the attack early posting shots on the goal in the fourth minute for USD (3-0) and fifth minute for UC Irvine (1-2). The Toreros found the back of the net in the eighth minute to take the first lead of the match. USD whipped in a corner that bounced near the top of the box and Michaela Foster put it back on goal just slipped it in off an Anteater defender for a 1-0 Torero lead.
Each club had their chances as the half played on, and the biggest came for the Anteaters in the 39th minute.
UCI held possession in the attacking third, and a loose ball found Amber Huff as she gathered and fired from 30 yards knuckling a shot off the crossbar and out. With that, the half ended still at a 1-0 deficit.
NO ANSWER
Scarlett Camberos and the Anteaters continued to press as she made a move for a goal in the 64th minute, but her shot was saved as she put both of her shots in the match on frame. The 'Eaters had a big chance with about 15 minutes left in the match catching USD keeper Ellyn Casto off her line and the ball bounding toward and empty goal, but the Torero defense came to the rescue to keep it goal.
FINAL SCORE: SAN DIEGO 3, UC IRVINE 0
Glo Hinojosa got the start again in net as a native of nearby Chula Vista, and stopped a career high five shots in net. UCI put up a total of seven shots to USD's 15. The 'Eaters played a clean match with any cautions and committed just eight fouls to USD's 18.
The Toreros added goals in the 54th minute by Sydney Hopkins and 71st minute by Bekah Valdez each taking advantage of rebounds for the 3-0 final tally.
SENIOR SUNDAY
UCI's next match comes back in Anteater Stadium where they're unbeaten in their last five matches Sunday night at 6:00 p.m. against CSUN in a non-conference contest. During the match, the program will honor its 2020 Senior class from last season of Sara Young, McKenzie Madison, Lauren McKimmey, and Caitlin Sanchez.
