
Richardson Leads Anteaters at Jim Bush Legends Invitational

LOS ANGELES - Graduate transfer Kayla Richardson led the UC Irvine women's track & field team at the Jim Bush Legends Invitational on Wednesday as she established two marks that rank among the program's all-time top-10.

Richardson claimed an individual victory in the 100m, clocking in at 11.80 seconds. That puts her at No. 5 in school history and is the Anteaters' fastest 100m time since 2018. Richardson was also the runner-up in the 200m with a mark of 24.19, which ranks eighth at UCI. She ran both of her races into a headwind.

Junior Zani Meaders was second in the 400m (56.41), while freshman Mia Marquez added a season-best 57.61.

Senior Cecily Montanez established a personal record in the 400m hurdles for the second meet in a row, coming in second with a time of 63.80.

Sophomore Amari Fraser made her 100m hurdle debut, finishing in the middle of the pack with a wind-aided 14.65.
TheΒ quartet of senior Natalie Koppel, Richardson, Meaders and freshman Aryel Coats also ran the 4x100 in 46.26 seconds.

In the field events, junior Tayla Crenshaw notched a lifetime-best 43-03.75 in the shot put, moving her up two spots to No. 7 in program history. Freshman Deandra Tyler, who already ranks eighth with a PR 42-09.75, had another strong showing with a toss of 42-02.75.
Senior Brianna Villanueva added a pair of top-three finishes in the hammer (171-10) and discus (157-09). In the javelin, freshman Carly Johnson bettered her season-opening mark from two weeks ago by over nine feet with a toss of 128-10.

Junior Lorraine Nance placed second in the triple jump (38-09), and registered a personal-best 17-11.5 in the long jump.

UC Irvine is back in action tomorrow, hosting the Anteater Distance Twilight starting at 4 p.m.
