Anderson and Robinson Out to Strong Start in NCAA Heptathlon

EUGENE, Ore. -Β Joy Anderson and Jolie Robinson both made their NCAA Championship debuts with the first four events of the heptathlon Friday at Hayward Field.

After day one, Anderson is 10th with 3,511 points, while Robinson is 23rd with 3,215 points.

Joy Anderson was one of only three individuals to clear the high jump bar at 1.78 meters (5-10). Anderson, who entered the competition at 1.60m, did not miss at her first five heights. She then saw a third-attempt clearance at 1.75m (5-8.75), and carried that momentum into the next round with a clean jump on her first try at 1.78m. That height is a personal record and moved her into a tie for fourth in school history.

The freshman started the heptathlon with a 100m hurdle time of 13.91, which was .02 seconds off her lifetime best that ranks eighth all-time at UCI. In the shot put, Anderson hit a season-best 11.54m (37-10.5) on her third and final throw. She closed out day one by crossing the 200m finish line in 24.47.

Senior Jolie Robinson kicked off the NCAA Championship meet running 14.43 in the 100m hurdles. She then had a clearance of 1.57 meters (5-1.75) in the high jump before registering a season-best 12.95m (42-6) in the shot put. Her shot put mark was fifth in the field of 24. Robinson clocked a 200m time of 25.16 to wrap up Friday's action.

Anderson and Robinson return to Hayward Field on Saturday, June 13, for the conclusion of the NCAA heptathlon. They are scheduled to compete in the long jump (2:30 p.m.), javelin (3:45 p.m.), and 800m (6:43 p.m.).
