
Anteaters Come out Strong at Ben Brown Invitational

FULLERTON, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's track & field team kicked off the 2021 season with the throws and distance events Friday at the Ben Brown Invitational. This weekend marks the Anteaters' first meet in over a year.
UCI had the top-two finishers in the discus, led by junior Kyle Tsu, who threw for a personal-record 174-08. That mark puts him at No. 8 in program history. Freshman Jacob Hawkins also impressed in his collegiate debut with a runner-up performance (168-11).
Tsu added a second-place showing in the shot put at 56-02.5, while junior Noah Holm was third (55-11.25).
Senior Jack Pickard had a strong outing in his first meet since 2019, winning the javelin with a toss of 205-05. He was the only competitor to surpass 200 feet, and did so on four of his six attempts. Junior Josh Farmer also took third at 164-04.
On the track, junior college transfer Miles Duncan paced UC Irvine in the 800m where he came in fourth with a time of 1:54.69.
Freshman Lukas Amare also led four 'Eaters, three of which were making their collegiate debuts, in the 5000m at 15:21.72 (20th).
UC Irvine resumes action at the Ben Brown Invitational tomorrow with the jumps starting at 11 a.m., and the sprints, hurdles and relays at 2 p.m.
