No. 5 UC Irvine Surges Past Santa Clara, 13-3

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Nine different Anteaters scored as UC Irvine earned a 13-3 win over Santa Clara in its first game of the Triton Invitational, Saturday morning.
UCI improves to 7-2 on the season while the Broncos fall to 1-3 overall.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Tara Prentice led the 'Eaters with three goals
> Toni Shackelford and Sarah Nichols each had two goals while Rylee Williams, Kayleigh Schultz, Elena Flynn, Jessica Lynch, Isabel Rack and Jolene Viramontes each added one
> Alyssa Schulte, Morgan Jones and Camila Rosas each split time in goal. Schulte played the first half and tallied four saves while Jones saw action in the third quarter, grabbing five saves. Rosas made two five-meter penalty stops in the fourth frame
Quarter One
> UCI jumped out to a 3-0 lead with back-to-back goals from Shackelford followed by Rack
> The 'Eaters held the Broncos scoreless in the frame
Quarter Two
> Flynn and Prentice each scored to give UCI a 5-0 lead with 6:22 to play
> SCU would get on the board at 3:51 with a goal from Emma Allengrucci
> Schultz and Williams capped the half with back-to-back goals to give the 'Eaters a 7-1 halftime lead
Quarter Three
> UCI continued its offensive attack as Prentice and Nichols each scored to make it 9-1 with 4:44 remaining in the quarter
> The Broncos added a goal at 4:12 before Lynch fired in a goal as time expired in the frame
Quarter Four
> Prentice and Viramontes capped the scoring for the 'Eaters with goals at 7:25 and 5:03, respectively
> The Broncos added another goal to make it 13-3 at the final buzzer
