No. 6 UCI Wraps Barbara Kalbus Invite With Win Over No. 5 ASU

IRVINE, Calif. – No. 6 UC Irvine defeated No. 5 Arizona State, 12-7, Sunday morning at Anteater Aquatics Complex on the final day of the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.
UCI finished in fifth-place at the invite with a 3-1 record on the weekend.
The Anteaters improve to 12-5 on the season, while Arizona State falls to 11-4.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Toni Shackelford, Elena Flynn, Jessica Lynch, and Tara Prentice each recorded two goals for the Anteaters
> UCI also received scores from Sarah Nichols, Piper Smith, Isabel Rack, and Christina Reyes
> Prentice added three steals, while Megan Falcon logged two
> Morgan Jones had eight saves while spending the entire game in goal
> The Anteaters took 38 shots compared to just 22 for the Sun Devils

> UC Irvine jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals coming from Smith (5:16) and Shackelford (4:46)
> After Arizona State got on the board to make it 2-1 at 3:48, the Anteaters answered with a goal by Lynch to push the lead to 3-1 with 3:13 to play
> The Sun Devils again cut their deficit to one with a goal by Van Buren at 1:53, but with just four seconds remaining, Rack added another score to push the 'Eaters lead back to 4-2
Quarter Two
> Following another goal from Van Buren that made it 4-3, the Anteaters used scores from Lynch (4:31) and Prentice (3:14) to take a three-point lead, 6-3
> ASU would add another goal with 35 seconds left to cut the 'Eaters lead to 6-4 heading to the half
Quarter Three
> Goals from Flynn (3:15) and Prentice (0:56) helped the 'Eaters extend their lead to 8-4
> The Sun Devils were held scoreless in the quarter
Quarter Four
> A pair of scores for ASU were countered by goals from Flynn (6:11) and Nichols (4:40) pushing the score to 10-6 in favor of the 'Eaters
> Scores from Shackelford (2:29) and Reyes (0:51) would help the 'Eaters lock down a 12-7 win
