IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's track & field team had three individuals earn All-Big West distinction the conference office officially announced Wednesday afternoon.
The all-conference awards were given to the top-three finishers in each individual and relay event at the Big West Championships, which took place in Santa Barbara, May 10-11.
Sophomore Seth Enochs secured the Anteaters' first podium finish last weekend, claiming runner-up honors in the long jump with a wind-aided personal-record 25-04. It was the second-straight meet in which he surpassed 25 feet as he also hit 25-00.75 at the Steve Scott Invitational on April 26. That mark moved him up to No. 4 on UCI's all-time charts and also earned him his first career Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week award. Enochs' jump was the best by an 'Eater since Bob Rust's 25-01 back in 1984. Enochs placed among the top-eight in all six of his long jump competitions this year, while picking up individual victories at the UCI Spring Break Collegiate Classic and the UC Riverside Spring Track Classic.
Redshirt freshman Kyle Tsu garnered all-conference honors in his first career Big West Championship meet. Tsu took third in the shot put behind only a pair of seniors from CSUN and Long Beach State. His best toss of the day was measured at 57-10.5, which was just under an inch shy of his season best that he established at the Big West Challenge (57-11.25). Tsu ranks third in school history.
Junior Jack Pickard was also third in the javelin at the Big West Championships. He was one of the most consistent throwers of the competition, surpassing 190 feet on four of his six attempts. Pickard's top mark came in at 194-11. Earlier in the year, he won the event at the Big West Challenge with a lifetime-best 221-0, which broke the school record in the new javelin (since 1986).
