IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's tennis team (10-3) will look to extend its three-match win streak on Tuesday, March 5, when it welcomes Louisiana to Anteater Tennis Stadium for a 9 a.m. non-conference showdown.
Last week, the 'Eaters defeated Villanova, 4-3, to secure their first 10-win campaign since 2015. On the year, Flora Amiri, Danielle Garrido, Arianna Tilbury and Jessica Tsukiji are tied for the team lead with seven dual-match singles wins.
In doubles, UCI has been consistent with its lineup during the spring season. Amiri and Stephanie Hazell have played at the top spot in three of four matches. Garrido/Tsukiji have consistently been at No. 2, while Tilbury and Alyssia Fossorier have seen success at No. 3 where they are 4-1.
Louisiana brings a 5-5 overall record to Irvine. The Ragin' Cajuns played three matches last week, sweeping Prairie View A&M, 4-0, before falling at San Francisco (4-2) and at Pacific (4-3). Marina Garcia is tops on the squad with an 8-1 dual-match singles record, playing at Nos. 3-5. Floraine Picaut is also a combined 7-3 at the top-two positions.
UC Irvine and Louisiana have faced each other once in the last 19 years. The Anteaters came out on top in that meeting, defeating the Ragin' Cajuns, 6-1, at home on Feb. 25, 2009.
