
UCI Wins Big West Match At CSUN, 15-6

IRVINE, Calif. – The 10th-ranked UC Irvine women's water polo team picked up its first Big West Conference win of the season after defeating No. 22 CSUN, 15-6, Saturday in Northridge.
UCI improves to 1-1 in the Big West and 14-8 overall. The Matadors fall to 13-15 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Tara Prentice matched a career-high five goals while Mary Brooks completed a hat trick with three
> Danielle Ayala finished with two goals
> Megan Falcon, Raegan Castillo, Toni Shackelford, Kayleigh Schultz and Sarah Nichols each scored once
> Morgan Jones played three periods in the cage and did not allow a goal in the third quarter
> Alyssa Schulte finished the game playing the final quarter in goal

QUARTER ONE
> Brooks and Prentice got the 'Eaters out to a 2-0 lead within the first three minutes
> The Matadors would score two in a row to knot the game, 2-2 (3:03)
> A Prentice goal followed by another from Brooks put UCI in the lead, 4-3, after the first frame
QUARTER TWO
> Brooks completed her hat trick with 7:04 left in the frame followed by a goal from Falcon to make it, 6-3
> CSUN came within two, 6-4, with 6:19 to play but the 'Eaters scored six-straight to break open the lead, 12-4, at the half
> Prentice had three goals in that stretch including a made penalty shot at 3:37

> Shackelford and Schultz each fired in a goal to put the 'Eaters up, 14-4
