Box Score OREM, Utah --- No. 22 UC Irvine powered home another one-hit shutout in addition to its best offensive output of the season to take the series opener at Utah Valley, 15-0, Friday night in UCCU Ballpark.
Opening Statement
The Anteaters (10-4) got more first-inning scoring starting with
Matt Reitano's second first-inning two-run double in as many games slashing a ball into the right-center gap to put UCI up 2-0.
Andre Pallante did his part on the mound shutting out Utah Valley (3-14) in the bottom of the inning and did so retiring the first 12 Wolverines.
Homer Happy
The 'Eaters would extended their lead incrementally thanks to the long ball.
Mikey Filia smoked a line drive shot out to left field for the first of his career making it a 4-0 lead in the third inning. UCI would chase UVU starter Jake Carr from the game in the sixth inning, and the first batter to greet reliever Spenser Triplett was
Christian Koss who popped a high shot out to left to make it a 7-0 Anteater advantage
The One Hit
Pallante lost in perfect game to the first batter of the fifth hitting Drew Sims with a pitch whom he would strand on second base in the frame. The first hitter of the sixth inning, Ty Vargas, flipped a ball down the right field line landing it just fair and breaking the no-hitter up.
Putting It Away
UCI got the bats going in full swing adding eight runs over the final two innings against the UVU bullpen. The 'Eaters got five runs in the eighth inning on two-run hits from
Mike Peabody and
Brandon Lewis topped by a pinch-hit RBI single from
Andre Antone. The ninth inning saw three runs starting from a line drive double from Koss scoring a run and
Brandon Lewis following with his second two-run hit of the night to make it 15 runs on 14 hits, both season highs for UCI.
Final Score: No. 22 UC Irvine 15, Utah Valley 0
Koss and Lewis each finished the game with four RBIs while Peabody, Reitano, and Filia each had two.
Jake Palmer scored three times along with two hits, and Anteater pinch-hitters
Konnor Zickefoose and
Sam Ireland each scored twice despite neither getting a hit
Pitchers of Record
