No. 6 ‘Eaters Defeat No. 24 Lancers at CBU Mini Invite

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Three Anteaters had hat tricks as No. 6 UC Irvine topped No. 24 California Baptist, 17-6, in the first game of the CBU Mini Invite, Saturday.
UC improves to 2-1 on the season while CBU falls to 1-4 overall.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
> Toni Shackelford, Piper Smith and Tara Prentice finished with a hat trick, tallying three goals apiece
> Isabel Rack had two goals while Mary Brooks, Kayleigh Schultz, Jessica Lynch, Danielle Ayala, Ariana Bockstahler and Avalon Gook each had one
> Morgan Jones and Alyssa Schulte split time in goal
> UCI won three-out-of-four sprints, went 4-4 on five-meter penalty shots and 5-10 in powerplay situations

> Sarah Nichols threw a pass to Ayala who fired in a goal with 2:38 left
> Brooks and Gook each scored in the final minute to give the Anteaters a 5-0 lead
SECOND QUARTER
> Lynch scored on a powerplay early in the frame (7:10)
> Shackelford had her second goal of the day less than a minute later (6:30) after receiving a pass from Lynch to make it 7-0
> Smith, Prentice and Rack each tallied a goal to put the 'Eaters up 8-0 with 1:21 remaining
> CBU's Baker scored in the final minute to make it 10-1 at the half
THIRD QUARTER
> Lizette Perez tallied a goal for the Lancers with 5:52 left in the frame
> Schultz scored on an extra-man situation before CBU added another goal to make it 11-3 with 4:04 remaining
> Shackelford, Rack and Smith each found the back of the net to close out the frame pushing the UCI lead, 14-3
FOURTH QUARTER
> Bockstahler, Prentice and Smith each had a goal in the final quarter
> CBU scored three times but UCI earned the decisive 17-6 victory
